Hosted by the North Carolina Chapter of the American Association of Zoo Keepers – a non-profit organization comprised of zookeepers and other interested individuals.

About NC AAZK: Through fund-raising and education, our chapter works to advance domestic and exotic animal care, foster professional development and contribute to research and a variety of conservation efforts worldwide. Currently, our chapter’s members include zookeepers and other interested individuals from the following four different animal care facilities in North Carolina.

Race Details:

The race will take place on the property of the North Carolina Zoo on both paved and gravel visitor pathways, featuring rolling hills typical to the foothills of North Carolina. Chip timing will be utilized to provide accurate individual times. The course will begin at the North America Connector road, continuing into the zoo through the African and North American continents and concluding at Solar Point. You may hear the roar of our African Lions or howling of the Red Wolves along the way! Participants will finish at Solar Point for refreshments and festivities.

Race Time: 7:30 AM to 9:00 AM
6:30 AM – Registration and packet pick-up begins
7:30 AM – Race begins
8:45 AM – FREE – Fun Run at Solar Point

Kids’ Fun Run: Bring your little “animals” for our FREE Kids’ Fun Run to be held after the race. We will set up a kid friendly, short course near the finish line for the kids. Every kid gets a prize! Human kids only, please!

Awards: Awards will be given to the overall top three male and female finishers as well as the top three male and female finishers in each of the following age categories: 12 and under; 13-18; 19-29; 30-39; 40-49; 50-59; 60 and over.

Directions and Parking: Please visit the North Carolina Zoo website, www.nczoo.org for directions. Parking will be in the North America parking lot near the Solar Point Picnic Area. Please arrive at least 15 minutes prior to the start time. Entrances and parking areas will be closed off for the race. Late arrivals will not be allowed to participate for the safety of the runners.

Restrictions:
– Race will take place rain or shine and the registration fee is nonrefundable.
– Walkers welcome! Participants must be able to complete the course within 90 minutes (~28 min/mile pace).
– Strollers are allowed. Please be aware that some areas of the course may be narrow with uneven surfaces.
– Only service animals are allowed at the zoo. Please leave all other animals at home!
